The Madhesi (Nepali: Madhesi) is a racial and ethnic group of Nepalese people who are the natives of Madhesh and Tharuhat plains of Nepal . Madhesis are generally Nepalese origin indigenous peoples including Indian origin Nepali residents or citizens immigrated into Madhesh from Indian State of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh who became Madheshi by naturalization in 2007 according to controversial Citizenship Act of Nepal 2007. The term Madheshi was coined historically by Pahari people for peoples inhabiting Madhesh which refers to entire Terai region of Nepal
